For the coming Spring/Summer, Il Gufo takes us on a journey of nautical discovery guided by little sailors who, diving amongst the interlacing shades of deep and mellow blue, become explorers of gulfs between styles and colours and evoke thoughts of chic coastal towns and coral reefs.
This line brings to the surface and illuminates an underwater world, allowing Il Gufo to become the spokesperson for a moral message inspired by renowned explorer and naval officer Jacques-Yves Cousteau: “To know your planet is a step towards protecting it.”
In this collection, references to the sophisticated fashion of the 30s are interlinked with more energetic and vibrant influences, creating a lively and playful style that evokes the animated activity of a coral reef.
Designs are natural and contemporary.
For girls, the styles are a blend of character and romanticism. Ruffled, lightweight dresses, embellished with embroidery contrast with more modern pieces, such as jumpsuits, mom jeans and tops with fluorescent detailing.
For boys, the collection is strongly influenced by the marine world and sailing: from the classic Breton stripe worn under a double-breasted jacket to allegorical landscape, waves and sea creature prints.
Thanks to the research into the innovative combination and working of the materials, the designs are increasingly functional and suitable for different occasions, all of this with the needs of children at the forefront.
Some classics are reinvented: the seersucker is enhanced with prints and broderie anglaise goes techno with a rubberised laser-cut print.
The innovative selection of garments made with Sensitive Fabrics allows Il Gufo to test a new dimension of active aesthetics, uniting the signature style of the brand with material performance.
For boys, more technical pieces are mostly in blue, whilst for girls the range of fabrics is enhanced by sophisticated and feminine shapes and details.
The Liberty cardigan with bow fastening is a pleasant surprise in this collection, made from recycled yarn that comes from reprocessed plastic bottles.
As always, it is chromatic variations that dictates the rhythm of the collection, in perfect harmony with the landscapes evoked.
The intense array of colours is striking; red and yellow burst through in unexpected flashes amidst the classic shades of blue, whilst fluorescent touches liven up daily looks.
All-over prints, hand embroidery and appliqués call to mind the beauty of nature to be protected; floating jellyfish, 3D coral, seahorses and tropical fish that each embellish and rejuvenate simple, often all-white pieces.
The grand finale sees the collection rise to the surface, the atmosphere warms and the initial North Sea nautical style is transformed thanks to a tropical palette. The collection comes to a close with fresh fabrics, linen, straw hats and bags typically worn under the Central American sun.
