The Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents an original calendar of activities for Family Card Members in six events that will take place between October 2021 and May 2022. The theme is education for sustainable development and ecological thinking. Sustainability is a very topical and urgent subject for the education of the younger generations. In light of the collaboration that binds the Peggy Guggenheim Collection to ASVIS, Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development, since 2018, the Venetian Museum considers this a challenge, and, above all, a priority. Let’s change the future. Today’s children, tomorrow’s citizens is made possible thanks to Il Gufo, a well-known Italian children’s clothing company, which for the fourth consecutive year is alongside the Collection, supporting the initiative.
Taking a stand, being active in favour of causes of collective interest, not remaining passive in the face of contemporary urgencies, have become the fundamental demands of the work of many contemporary artists. The term “Artivism”, which combines “art” and “activism”, can be used to indicate the attitude of those artists who, in today’s global panorama, express their critical thinking by undertaking more or less symbolic actions to subvert the present.
Contemporary artists engaged in social practice investigate sustainability by addressing issues related to ecology and the environment, social inequalities, peace and justice, thus triggering virtuous relationships with communities.
Inspired by these artistic practices, the workshops will address issues that are as urgent as they are important for the citizens of tomorrow, including the creation of shared urban spaces, environmental protection and active participation in the community.
